Milan Mrkusich (1935 - 2018). Pioneering NZ abstract painter, born in Dargaville, Northland in 1935. A self-taught artist Mrkusich held his first exhibition in Auckland in 1949, and was always interested in architectural forms: the basis of many works is the square, circle and triangle. One of Mrkusich’s paintings was reproduced in the Barry Lett Multiples, and an offset lithograhic print was also published by Christchurch’s Capper Press. We have a just very few of these prints of Mrkusich's abstract painting "Four Elements" left in our stockroom that have been stored in pristine condition since publication.
