Don Binney

Don Binney (1930 - 2012 ) attended the Auckland University School of Fine Arts from 1968-1961, holding his first exhibition two years later.

At first his paintings were dominated by his characteristic birds, outlined in black and flying over abstract landscapes; later in his career the landscapes became more important, but Binney's work is instantly recognisable by its clarity of line and light, and definition of colour. Unfortunately there are no prints of Binney's paintings currently available. The popular print "Colonial Garden Bird" has gone out of print and the poster for the Don Binney retrospective exhibition has also sold out recently.
