Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch (1863 - 1944), Norwegian painter whose painting “The Scream” is probably one of the most famous paintings of all time. Munch’s early life was marked by tragedy with many family members dying young, or suffering from mental illness. After three years study at Oslo’s Royal School of Art and Design he travelled to Paris on a scholarship, it was when he returned that he broke with the realism of his earlier artworks and began to create his expressive (and darkly phycological!) paintings for which he became famous.

The style of art became known as “Expressionism”, paintings that didn’t just depict a scene but expressed the artist’s emotions on canvas. We have both a print and a poster version (printed on lighter quality paper) of Munch’s famous painting “The Scream” in stock, plus prints of two other well-known paintings by this incredible artist.
