Margaret Stoddart

Prints of paintings by Margaret Stoddart are rapidly going out of print - the editions of her paintings of the "Old Homestead" in Diamond Harbour and "Bluebells" have all sold out in recent times and are not being re-printed by the publisher. We now have only a few prints left of the prints listed here. Margaret Olrog Stoddart (1865-1934) was born in Canterbury but educated in Edinburgh before returning to Christchurch to study art. In her early forties Stoddart travelled to England and Europe and had work shown at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon, before returning to the Canterbury Society of Arts as a teacher. A particularly fine collection of Stoddart's watercolours, including many of her famous flower studies, are held at the Christchurch Art Gallery.
