Ethelyn Stewart

Ethelyn Stewart studied art in New York, where her work was so highly thought of she was permitted to have a one-person show on graduating. For some time she worked as a textiles designer, and also gained a strong reputation for her etchings: she invented a process for printing copper plate etchings on to fabric and became famous for her batik textiles. One of these reproduced a series of Gothic tapestries. Her oil paintings and etchings are widely represented in American galleries.
