Gordon Walters

Gordon Walters (1919 - 1995) prints have been firm favourites with customers here at NZ's specialist art print gallery since the 1970s. Walters' prints were consistently in the top ten selling prints by a New Zealand artist for at least the last decade. However after the death of the painter (and his wife's death more recently) his copyright is now vested in the "Gordon Walters Foundation" who for unknown reasons seem to have decided not to allow any reproduction of his paintings or prints until 2045 (when Walters' work leaves copyright).

We are at a loss to understand why the Gordon Walters Foundation are not promoting the work of Walters through good quality and affordable prints as surely popularising the work of the artist should be a large part of the raison d'ĂȘtre for an artists' foundation? We are keeping our customers posted on progress in our campaign to have some great prints of Gordon Walters artwork available (or initially to get at least the courtesy of a letter from the Gordon Walters Foundation explaining why they are not allowing prints of his work) in our blog, see eg this article on the Gordon Walters Foundation here - or subscribe to our art print newsletter to be the first to hear about new prints by New Zealand artists like Gordon Walters.
