Pierre Bonnard

Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) studied at the Academy Julian in Paris before joining the group known as the Nabis (prophets). Bonnard worked as a book illustrator as well as on theatrical sets and screens and posters, and was much influenced by the work of Gaugin and by Japanese art. He first exhibited his paintings in 1896, and continued painting into his old age.
