E. Von Guerard

Eugen von Guerard (1811-1901) was an Austrian artist who arrived in Australia at the end of 1852, following the goldrushes of the time. With a few years he had returned to painting, and in 1870 was appointed curator of the National Gallery of Victoria. During the 1870s he made visits to New Zealand, where he is best known for artworks painted during a cruise to Milford Sound in 1876.
