Michael Illingworth

Michael Illingworth (1932-1988) migrated to New Zealand in 1951, working first as a photographer and then at a variety of occupations, deciding in 1957 that he wished to be a artist. Travelling to Europe, he was encouraged into fulltime painting before returning to New Zealand in 1961, where, eight years later, Michael Illingworth became the first Frances Hodgkins Fellow at Dunedin.
