New Zealand Fine Prints stock all prints of Frances Hodgkins paintings available. Frances Hodgkins (1869-1947), daughter of W M Hodgkins, was born in Dunedin and studied and taught art there before making two extended visits to Europe and exhibiting in London and Paris. She returned briefly to New Zealand before making her home in England.
Hodgkins artwork developed from realism in portraits and landscapes to avant garde watercolours and oils so unconventional that work was once rejected by a New Zealand gallery. She is now regarded as the first New Zealand woman artist to have a significant international reputation, and is widely represented in major New Zealand, Australian, and English galleries, including the Tate.
