From Hall's "Aotearoaland"series Poll Tax refers to the discriminatory tax levied on immigrants from China in the early days of New Zealand settlement. The portrait of a young Chinese woman wearing a tiki is a riff on the famous painting Chinese Girl in a Yellow Jacket by Vladimir Tretchikoff.  Lester has withdrawn this series from sale as he wants to move on to new work.  We have just one left of this popular image.
