Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi Art Print
Matted Mini PrintOutside mat size in millimetres: 360 x 290, comes flat in a clear plastic sleeve.
Recreation of a 1952 mural by Marcus King. King’s mid century depiction of the signing of the treaty with an audience of British officials and Maori signatories was a well researched reconstruction as no pictures of the actual event exist. The mural went to London for an exhibition and its current whereabouts are unknown. In 2014, working from a black and white photograph of King working on the original artwork, Dick Frizzell recreated the painting in his studio. As a print this artwork is only available as a matted image in a mini size (image is surrounded by a mat board and enclosed in a plastic sleeve) which is something we usually don’t offer for sale, however we made an exception as this is such a fascinating illustration of an important moment in the birth of New Zealand as a modern nation and it is only available in this size and format.
