In 1973 the 'chopper' II bicycle became part of many kid's dreams as the chopper was coolness on two different-sized wheels. Coolness did not extend yet to girlfriends holding on tight and socks and gumboots were OK and prevailed over sensible things like wearing safety helmets. The famous HQ Holden came on to the market in 1972 and helmets became compulsory for motorbikes in 1973, suddenly the Kiwi Easy Rider days were over.
