This print of Mount Alford with Mount Taylor to the left and Mount Hutt to the right is looking from a cattle farm on the Canterbury plains. Mount Alford is an easy drive from Christchurch and a popular weekend hike. This plate is taken from a twentieth century re-print of Barraud's "Graphic & Descriptive" which was originally published in 1877. This attractive early view of Mount Alford, along with other regional NZ views has been extracted from the 1960 edition of Barraud’s “New Zealand: Graphic and Descriptive”.
