The 8 Bit Tiki print by Weston Frizzell is referencing early 8 bit computer graphics and the Maori tiki motif. Mike Weston told NZ Fine Prints “Over the last 18 months Otis and I have worked super hard to reinvent and produce a range of new screenprints, to fill what we perceived as a price gap in the range of works.” Same super slick production values but in a smaller, more affordable size. Interestingly from a printmaking perspective this print was made as a series of six individual images with a hand finished coloured red background printed on a single sheet, so there are six very slightly different variations of yellow markings on the red tiki within the 150 prints of this edition.
