Update March 31. We have only one more available now from this edition. Sold Out. There will be a short delivery delay as Robyn has just moved house and can't send us prints for a few days. However we have the last 5 (four are already sold) put aside for us and she will be sending them to us as soon as she can. 2019 silkscreen print of one of Robyn’s favourite subjects. Small edition size and relatively affordable - we highly recommend this new print from one of NZ’s most significant living artists. Hinetitama celebrates the essential female element in Te Ao Māori. Hinetitama is dawn, the first true human. She was the daughter of Tane and Hine-ahu-one who bound earthly night to earthly day. Kahukiwa interpretation of traditional Māori mythology has a strongly feminist theme, she attempts to redress the conventional portrayal of women as less important than their male counterparts. While the figure is strongly representational as is typical in Western art, the symbolism which is an integral part of the work identifies it as Māori. [Credit to Nga Korero a ipurangi o Aotearoa for helping us out with this explanation of the significance of Hinetitama in Kahukiwa’s paintings and prints].
