The Ark painting came about from a trip to the Tiritiri Matangi Island wildlife sanctuary and conservation project. It features native NZ birds and iconic plants such as the Nikau Palm with a lighthouse (look carefully and you will see this actually contains a lit candle) in the foreground. An ark is something that affords protection and safety, most famously a boat built by Noah to save his family and two of every kind of animal from the biblical flood. From Barry’s “Island” series.
