Tony Ogle (1959- ) is one of New Zealand's most successful printmakers. The art of Tony Ogle is inspired by locations that are off the beaten track and the mostly untouched niches of the New Zealand coastline that convey to him an "unchanged timelessness". Tony strives to capture what he calls a "sense of place" in his art prints. With over two and a half decades of printmaking experience Tony Ogle's prints have become increasingly technically complex as the artist works to depict what he sees as the "very essence of the New Zealand landscape". Ogle writes that "Screen-printing allows me to express my love of the New Zealand landscape and ocean environment with strong colours in a direct and graphic manner". Tony has been surfing for more than 30 years and has recently devoted a large portion of his most recent working time to creating a new series of prints of this much-loved activity, particularly around Auckland's west coast beaches like Piha.
Latest news about Tony Ogle prints: Because they are handmade limited editions once sold out these prints are not available to buy once the editions sells, in the last few months the following prints have sold out, "Sunset Piha", "Still in Service", "Fisherman's Cove" and most recently "Crimson Ridge, Te Henga". In this time Tony has completed two new prints, "Midday Matapouri" and in July Ogle's latest fine art edition arrived at our gallery, called "Breakaway Bay".
