Printed in New Zealand on 250gsm Euro Art Paper using lightfast inks. Painted in 1958 after he returned to New Zealand after his momentous study tour to the United States, the "Northland Panels" paintings are McCahon's exhuberant celebration of the uniqueness of the New Zealand landscape. The original artwork was made up of eight hanging canvasses painted using house paint.
The text on the fifth panel reads 'A landscape with too few Lovers' - this has been interpretated to be McCahon's call to strenghten the bond between the people of NZ and their land. The text on the end panel on the right hand side reads 'oh yes it can be dark here and the manuka in bloom may breed despair'
