Digital printmaking is an exciting new area for printmakers to extend their artistic practice. This print is not a reproduction, like a lithograph, etching or screenprint it is a “multiple original”. This view of Mt Cook/Aoraki from printmaker Alec Tayler’s South Island series is a stunning example of how a printmaker can use the tools and equipment of digital printing to produce a fine art print that respects and builds on earlier forms of printmaking - whilst adding a clarity and contrast that gives this print a richness and depth that has to be seen to be believed. Unlike the traditional views of Mt Cook/Aoraki Tayler places people in the landscape, it is not an empty landscape devoid of human life but a place of beauty we now actively engage with rather than passively observing.
