Key early work from this printmaker printed in a very small edition using shimmer ink (the ink has a beautiful subtle glitter in certain lights). Whanau is a landmark combination of script and swirling Maori motifs. According to Hansen this print "depicts the layered relationships and connections being whanau [Maori = Family] brings. We are all one linked by the blood of our ancestors." This shimmer ink Whanau that is in such a small edition for one of NZ's most innovative printmakers is highly recommended to astute collectors of contemporary NZ editions.
