Instant Iwi by Matt Moriarty
5 Colour ScreenprintPrint size in millimetres: 480 x 640
Edition of 100 prints. Printed, signed and numbered by Matt Moriarty.
Instant Iwi references parts of the traditional Maori process of Ta Moko - facial tattoo. The work draws inspiration from manufacturing structures common in injection moulding processes and decal sheets found in plastic model kits. As Matt says “I have a strong interest in the aesthetics of diagrams and how the composition of parts effects the way the image is perceived.” Comprises five detailed screen layers, this artwork pushes the limits of image registration for a hand pulled screenprint.
