This print is of one of the new series of “Islands” paintings from NZ artist Barry Ross Smith. We know a “trig point” when we see one, but Wikipedia helped us define what it actually is - “A triangulation station, also known as a triangulation pillar, trigonometrical station, trigonometrical point, trig station, trig beacon, or trig point, and sometimes informally as a trig, is a fixed surveying station, used in geodetic surveying and other surveying projects in its vicinity.” This is a quirky take on the traditional painting of NZ farm life, from an artist who works and lives on a farm himself.
