Dick Frizzell Untitled Tiki Print
Limited Edition ScreenprintImage size in millimetres: 290 x 350 (paper size is a full 700 x 500mm sheet)
Edition of 75 prints, signed, titled and numbered by Frizzell below image in pencil.
Bold 2014 print showing that Dick still has refreshing new ideas about ways to rework the tiki. Dick Frizzell’s tiki prints and paintings in the 1990s were the first to take this Maori motif across the divide into fine art. Frizzell is responsible for the place of tiki today as a NZ cultural and artistic icon and thanks to him tiki have now become an unselfconscious and enduring part of our national identity. This print is as fresh and exciting as any of Frizzell’s earlier tiki prints and as it is a smaller edition and at a slightly lower price than the larger screenprints he has been producing over the past few years this means this print of such an iconic motif for this artist won’t be available long.
