Matariki marks the beginning of the Māori new year, the name refers to the cluster of sarts also known as the Pleiades. The appearance of these “eyes of god” (Mata ariki) or “little eyes” (mata riki) usually occurs in late May or early June. This poster shows the Matariki constellation.
