Piko Piko Cypod by M Viliamu
Fine Art Print
Image size in millimetres: 420 x 595This print is a suberb example of contemporary NZ design from a NZ artist of Samoan heritage. Piko Piko is a traditional Maori food. These edible fern fronds, known as bush asparagus, are pale green with brown speckles. Picked before the leaves unfold, the fronds add a unique 'forest' flavour to dishes. Paua and woven flax replace a strictly representational depiction of the fern's fronds and there is a subtle black on black fern leaf pattern in the background.
