Despite a scornful review when it was first exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts annual exhibition in 1938 Rita Angus' painting of the railway station at Cass was recently voted New Zealand's greatest painting in the nationwide poll conducted by the Gibson Group's Frontseat programme broadcast on TV1.
