Hei Tiki have transformed from the traditional greenstone pendants worn by Maori into an enduring icon of New Zealand culture. Artists such as Dick Frizzell have referenced (and playfully deconstructed) the tiki in paintings and prints since the 1970s. Contemporary printmaker Greg Straight has boldly joined the discussion of the Tiki's place in modern NZ art with his _Tikitastic_ series which combines the tiki motif with a 21st century urban design aesthetic.
