Beyond the black stump is a phrase meaning the back of beyond, further out in the country than the extent of civilisation. In this new 2015 print Dick has found an actual black tree stump to be the subject of this artwork. Total trivia: Frizzell’s friend and fellow artist Fane Flaws once ran the “Black Stump” film company in the 1990s.
