Robin White

Robin White

Dame Robin White (1946- ) is one of NZ's most important printmakers of the late twentieth century (and reputed to be a pretty good painter too!). A graduate of Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts she worked as a teacher intially, learning to screenprint (more commonly called silkscreens at the time) while she lived in Paremata and then Dunedin where some of her most famous prints were completed. White's prints now regularly acheive some of the highest prices at auction for NZ prints. There has just been a new release of full sized prints of paintings by Robin White, and we also have an offset reproduction print of her famous 1973 painting “Mangaweka”.

A few years back Dame Robin kindly granted permission to NZ Art Print News to re-print a fascinating interview that she gave in 1981 about how she learned to make prints.
