G.P. Nerli

Girolamo Pieri Ballati Nerli (1863-1926), an Italian artist who arrived in New Zealand in 1889 after a successful early career in Italy and Australia, was influential in the careers of several New Zealand painters whom he taught. A painter of landscapes and oils, he was noted for an insouciant attitude to life unusual in New Zealand at that time. He returned to Europe in 1898 and died in Italy. Prints of Nerli paintings were published by the Capper Press, we have a small selection for sale that have been stored in pristine condition since publication in our Christchurch warehouse.
