Janet Marshall has been painting New Zealand birds and flora since 1971, when she produced the paintings for three definitive field guides on New Zealand Birds, the Mobil Field Guide to Common NZ Birds - Volumes 1 & 2 and the Mobil Field Guide to Rare and Extinct NZ Birds. Her work was also used for a series of ten postage stamps on NZ Endangered birds for New Zealand Post. In 1993 Marshall’s book, Images of a Garden, was published by Reed Publishers NZ.Janet Marshall now lives on the Takaka Hill, midway between Golden Bay and Tasman Bay, and midway between two of New Zealand’s most beautiful National parks. Kea's (NZ Alpine Parrots), NZ Falcons, Marsh Harriers, Herons, Native Pigeons, Robins, Tomtits, Tui's and Bellbirds all visit her garden, giving Janet plenty of subjects for her work.Janet Marshall works in a variety of mediums including gouache and watercolour, acrylic, ink and wash, pastel and pencil, all worked on either rag board or canvas. All prints from her limited editions series of NZ birds have now sold out.
