Print of Ingres’s Violin by Man Ray
Fine Art Photography PrintImage size in millimetres: 600 x 800
This famous modified photograph features Man Ray’s model and muse Kiki (Alice Prin) photographed in the style of the 18th century French painter Jean August Dominque Ingres. Man Ray painted the two black sound holes onto the photograph so Kiki resembles a violin or cello and then re-photographed the altered photograph. The title alludes to the fact that Kiki was perhaps the plaything of Man Ray (the title in the original French “violon d’Ingres” is a French colloquialism meaning “a hobby”). This re-print is on fine art paper, printed in Italy in association with the Man Ray Trust.
